Induction days

Last week we were absolutely delighted to welcome the new P1s into the P1 to 4 class on Tuesday for their first formal morning in the Primary School. They had a great time and impressed us so much by being Ready, Respectful and Safe. We can’t wait to see them for a full day next Tuesday.

The P7s also seemed to have a great two days at High School as S1s, although we miss them already!

The High School has asked us to pass on this message:

Please can you make sure that all your P7s coming for the induction days next week have their Young Scot Cards with them so that the kitchen can activate them.

Vaccinations – New P1s and new P7s

Please look out for emails sent to the parents of our new P1 and new S1 (current P7) today about the importance of MMR vaccinations.

Residential photos

I am sure that you will have heard that the P7 residential was a resounding success and the children and staff had a fantastic time. I uploaded photos on a daily basis to re-assure the parents at home that all was going very well and you can see all of these by following these links. We have booked again for next year! Many thanks to the Parent Council for funding this trip for our pupils.

Anti racism showcase

You will remember that back in February, Miss Mahmood led all of the pupils in doing some anti-racism work related to the “Show Racism The Red Card” campaign and competition. We were absolutely delighted to discover that Nora’s poem was chosen as a winner in the competition and as a result she and Miss Mahmood attended a fabulous Anti-Racism Showcase at St Mungo’s Museum in Glasgow on Monday 10th June. We are so proud of Nora for this and delighted that she had a brilliant day out and learned even more about anti-racism. Well done Nora!

Nature Detectives

As you will know from recent updates, the Primary 1 to 4 class has been working with Mrs Jacquelyn Condie from Kilmartin House Museum this term on an exciting Nature Detectives project. For two days in school they had workshops exploring stories related to the environment and making fabulous nature-related crafts. The project then culminated in a visit to Taynish National Nature Reserve on Thursday 13th June, when the children worked with Jacquelyn and Heather Goodwin from NatureScot and explored the fantastic environment of the reserve and temperate rain forest. The child (and adults) had the most fantastic time and learned a huge amount about the plants and animals at Taynish, even though the weather tried to put us off at first. We are hugely grateful to Kilmartin House Museum, Jacquelyn and Heather and our wonderful driver George who made this possible.

Beetle Drive

Many thanks indeed to those of you who came to the Beetle Drive on Friday 31st May and made it such a fabulous evening. Many thanks, too, to our parent council, for organising the event so brilliantly. An amazing £310 was raised!

End of term farewells.

We will be saying farewell to our P7 and staff leavers at 2.30pm on Wednesday 26th June.  There is absolutely no expectation that parents attend but if you would like to come along, you will be very welcome. We will ask you whether you plan to attend next week.

Next session – parental engagement

As you know, we love welcoming you into our school to be part of learning activities with the children. Next session we are looking to extend this and will be inviting you as parents to take part in the following:

  • Learning with your child

We would love it if every one of you could come in and experience how learning in the classroom works alongside your child at some point in the year. We know that many of you work so we will be asking you to give us dates when this might work for you.

  • Parents as role models – invitation to come in and talk about the work you do

As adults we are all role models and sources of inspiration and information for all of the children in our community. In order that they can find out about a range of work and career opportunities, we would like to invite you to come in and talk about the work you do (whether you have a formal job or career or not) and the path you took to get into it. As above, we will plan this around your other commitments. If you can’t attend in person due to work or other commitments, you could perhaps record a video message.

Have a lovely weekend.
