This week, we have a very full update on a number of fantastic learning opportunities that the children have experienced over the past couple of weeks.
Science in the P5 to 7 class.
Earlier this month, the P5 to 7 class showed off their fantastic science skills when made lave lamps and explored solids, liquids and gases and how liquids react.
Science with Mrs Goodwin – Glassary Primary School
World Children’s Day Assembly
We were delighted that the pupils attended a special celebration of children’s human rights on 20th November – World Children’s Day – in the form of an online assembly to explore the topic of ‘climate change and children’s rights’ with Children and Young People’s Commissioner for Scotland Nicola Killean.
At the assembly, the children
- learned about the link between climate change and children’s rights
- heard from other children who have created climate campaigns in their local area
- felt inspired to share their views with children across Scotland.
We were very proud of how respectfully the children took part and of the way they interacted with the topic.

Our World from Space Workshop
The Children in the P4 to 7 class had an excellent experience when they also travelled to the Oban Rockfield Centre on 20th November to take part in workshops with staff from SAMS (The Scottish Association for Marine Science). They explored how we can learn more about the ocean through satellites and how climate change is impacting our planet. The staff were very impressed with how well the children engaged and participated and the children were very impressed with the snow that fell on the way home! Thanks to our amazing driver Christine for getting everyone home safely.
Christmas Show filming in Kilmartin
This week we had a fantastic day out when we went to Kilmartin, to film our drama for the Christmas show which will take place on Thursday 19th December. You are going to be so proud of the children when you see the results of their efforts. You can check out a few shots of our work on location here (but don’t worry, no spoilers as to how Lady Kilmartin met her unfortunate end…..):

Children in Need
Many thanks to you all for your donations to this year’s annual Children in Need fundraiser, which took place on November 15th; we managed to raise a fantastic £150 in total.
No Child Cold – Parent Council Coats contribution
And last but not least, we are hugely grateful to our fantastic Parent Council for providing a new, warm winter coat for every child this month; very welcome during the recent cold snap. You can see how much the children love their coats and how smart they look:

Joint Learning Day
Due to a planned power outage in Tayvallich on Thursday, we are going to do some joint learning with our Tayvallich friends in Glassary, picking up on the fabulous Hope Spot work that the older classes did last summer and exploring some of the letters that the children have received from people in other Hope Spots around the world.
Parent Council Christmas Fayre
Don’t forget to keep 13th December free and come along to the school between 4 til 6 to do some gift shopping, buy your Christmas Tree, enjoy some festive food and drink and meet Santa. Please get in touch with Julie Brown as soon as possible if you wish to order a Christmas Tree.
Check out the poster here: http://www.glassary.argyll-bute.sch.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Christmas-Tree-Sale.png
Please remember that the Parent Council is also looking for donations for the prize hamper:
To raise money for the Parent Council, we are holding a guess the number square activity at the Christmas Fayre on 13th December. The prize will be a luxury Christmas Hamper. We would be very grateful if you were able to contribute one non-perishable food item. Please donate any items for this to Mrs Speechley in school by Friday 6th December.
Have a lovely weekend.
