Its been an incredibly busy month here at Glassary and the children are working well through the class content planned for this term.
Please see below for the relevant updates for families this week and for the week ahead
Curriculum Cafe
The children will be hosting their first Curriculum Cafe on Wednesday the 1st of October at 2:30pm, this is open to all family members. The idea behind these open afternoons is that parents and family members can engage with their child’s learning by looking through their workbooks and their learning on the displays around the classroom, this provides opportunities to continue these conversations at home and in turn can create a much more informed learning environment for everyone in the family. Tea and coffee will be provided.
We would also like to take the opportunity of families coming together on this day to do a welly-swap. Part of our recent Parent Council meeting focused on outdoor learning, I have been reviewing our outdoor gear and much of it was not in appropriate condition to salvage, Parent Council are able to provide new outdoor gear for all of the pupils and we felt that with sustainability in mind there may be items that we have left that families could make use at home. However we are also looking to provide our pupils with appropriate footwear – wellies! We have a few pairs here in very small sizes but this would be a great opportunity to donate any pairs from home that your wee ones have outgrown and hopefully snap-up an appropriately sized pair for them to keep in school over the next few months.
In short, please bring any wellies that you would like to donate to this cause with you to the curriculum cafe. There will also be an opportunity for some waterproof trousers and jackets to be passed on to families from the school.
Smoke Free Generation
Our Primary 7 pupils recently took part in the first of their transition visits to the High School we were joined by 2 other schools and this was an excellent opportunity for them to get a first insight into their new High School chapter. I would like to extend an enormous thank you to our two parent volunteers who drove myself and the pupils to the High School on this day as we are currently unable to book council transport for trips etc.
School Photos
Families were emailed a copy of their child/ren’s school photos this week. This year we took individual and sibling photos, there were some children who were absent on the day that photos were taken, please rest assured that we have invited Mr Carter back to take the remaining photos but this is likely due to be after the October holiday. We will send these additional photos to the appropriate families as soon as we are able.
October Holiday
A reminder that the school closes at 3:15pm on Friday the 3rd of October and reopens on Monday 20th of October.
Parent Volunteers
In order for ANY parent to help at school events, including discos etc, they must have completed the PVG process, many parents have already completed this. The applications do take some time to process, if you would like to be part of this please email enquiries and arrange to collect a form from the office, the school also require 3 identification documents e.g. drivers license, passport and a formal letter that confirms your address – it is important that the school must see the original forms of ID, we will then scan them and give them back to you. Supporting documents can be brought into school to scan at the beginning or end of the day, please see Mrs Speechley.
Please see below a flyer that a parent has passed on to us for information:
Fèis an Tairbeirt Gaelic Workshops – An Dàmhair_2
Relating to music, Rod Buchannan has also provided us with some information regarding chanter lessons:
Would you be able to let parents know that we will have capacity to take on beginners for both chanter and pipe band drumming starting after the October break. There is a £3.00 per night admin fee per pupil. Ideally they should be 8 or over. Note that myself and other tutors that help are PVG checked.
Interested parents or pupils can contact me by email: rodbuchanan60@icloud.com
or on 07443016444 or through the Mid Argyll Pipe Band.
Regards
Rod Buchanan
We have also had confirmation that Laura Stone will be returning for several music sessions between October and Christmas.
