Glassary Primary School

Week beginning 18th September

Article 3

Another busy week has gone by with lots to report on!

Assemblies

This term, we have started up whole school weekly assemblies on a Monday.  In assemblies, we:

  • share things that everyone in the school needs to hear about what is coming up in the week ahead
  • celebrate good things that have happened
  • talk about a particular children’s right that we are focussing on

We can also:

  • hear from pupils who may have things they want to say – maybe the pupil council
  • hear from visitors

This week our focus was on safety; we looked at how many of the rights in the UNCRC are about adults working together in the best interests of all of our children to keep them safe (article 3).

I reminded the children that the school playground is out of bounds when school is closed, although the playpark is open to children who are supervised, as per the signs. Last week one of the adults working in the building after school was very worried when they saw children playing on the bins. These are not toys and it is very unsafe for children to climb on or into them.

Fire Drill

On Thursday, we carried on the theme of safety when we had a whole-school fire drill to help the children understand and practice what happens if the fire alarm sounds. The behaviour, listening and co-operation skills shown by the pupils was very impressive. Well done everyone!

Toothbrushing visit.

On Monday 11th, we had a visit from Karen Grieve from the Oral Health Team who checked our school tooth-brushing routines. She was very pleased with what she saw. Well done again everybody!

Parents Evenings

As you will know from the school calendar, Parents’ evenings will take place after school on Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th September where parents/carers can discuss with the class teacher how their child has settled into the new school year and the progress they are making.

Please submit a response to the Google Form included with this week’s email to tell us the time and format that suits you best.

New School Entrance

Please be aware that, if all goes to plan, we will have a new Entrance Door fitted by MacLeods with Wednesday (20th September). This is very exciting but means that we will need to use the door in and out of the P1 to 4 classroom as an alternative. We will talk to all of the pupils about this on Monday, as well as how we will plan our classroom activities around the work on Wednesday so that everyone can stay safe, calm and learning.

Reminder

Family learning questionnaires. I am very appreciative of the number of responses so far and the depth of your answers to the questions in these. This week I will send individual emails to those who have not managed to respond to see whether there is anything I can do to support you with this.

Ipay Impact – please remember to make meal choices for the week.

Have a great week and you know where I am, if you need anything.

Kindest regards

Lena
