Week Beginning 23rd February 2026

Whilst the calendar at Glassary may have been quiet over the last month, our children have been working hard in their classrooms.

What’s been happening?
In P5-7 we have been working on our STEMovator projects which we hope to showcase at their event in Oban in May. Last year the class took part in the STEMovator’s event regarding the building of a ‘new school’ using renewable sources of energy and displaying the children’s ideal learning location. This year the challenge is: Build a Crane. This has been quite an intense project, the children have undertaken a series of lessons where they have learnt about strong shapes, materials and pulley systems. They have recently been problem solving their crane ideas in their groups – more information can be found in the link below. The children have asked if they have permission to bring in some items from home that might help their design – I have said yes, so long as they have parental permission and the item is safe e.g. no tools.

P1-4 have been learning about space, exploring the different planets and star signs and they will be moving on to Astronauts in the near future.

Curriculum Cafes
On the 2nd of February we held our 3rd curriculum cafe and it was another successful day of family engagement. Again, at this visit we welcomed a variety of generations of family members into our school. The staff have all enjoyed observing and engaging with extended family members who are attended our open afternoons.

We are extremely grateful for the time that family members have made to attend these events, we hope that it will continue in the next academic year. One of the questions that was asked in the ‘Feedback Form’ which was issued recently was about the frequency of these events – for the time being they will remain on the first working day of every second month (excluding April 2026 as it is on the 2nd) and this will be reviewed according to feedback for the next academic year. As I say, the next cafe will be running on Thursday the 2nd of April from 2:30pm – 3:15pm and we look forward to seeing you all there.

Swimming Lessons
As most of you will have heard, our first swimming lessons was not a success for the P5-7 class, however the P1-4 class had a brilliant time and they were all excellent – they did extremely well getting themselves dried and dressed quickly at the end.
Some rearranging has been done ahead of next week to ensure that the session runs smoothly and the P5-7 actually get to go swimming!

As always, please ensure that your child has an appropriate swim kit with them, this should include items such as swimwear, a towel, goggles where possible and any wash products that your child may need.

Parent’s Evenings
Thank you to all of you who were able to attend our parent’s evenings this week, we had a lovely time discussing all of the children’s learning with you. As always, you can get in touch with us at any time via the enquiries email address.
