Glassary Primary School

Week beginning 23rd January

Puffer book

Learning across the school

Our classrooms were very busy with fantastic learning opportunities again this week. The P1 to 3 class has been working on entries for the Scottish Book Trust’s 50 word writing challenge with the theme The Snowman and produced some absolutely amazing and inspiring writing which you will be able to see through Seesaw. They have also been continuing to explore the fascinating topic of dinosaurs and the timeline that is taking shape in the classroom is fantastic; pictures will follow when it is complete.

Pupils across the school have also been producing work for this year’s Puffer Children’s Art Challenge and I am delighted to have been given copies of two fantastic pictures by pupils in P5 and P6 for my office wall.

In the P4 to 7 class, work has continued around the Sea theme and some of you may have spotted the addition of a whale skull in our playground, on loan from Mr Voinot to help pupils with their exploration of sea creatures.  It was also great to see the class using the online educational platforms Nessy and Sumdog to help them re-inforce their numeracy and literacy skills in class this week.

In our P7 pupil council meeting on Friday we set up our P7 transition Google Classroom and I look forward to communicating with the P7s through the platform and helping them further build up their confidence in using it.

Strike Action Update

This is the information that was sent to you directly by our Heads of Education on the 17th January:

We are writing to inform you of additional strike action which has been announced by a number of Trade Unions which will have an impact on Argyll and Bute schools on Thursday 2nd February.  It is anticipated that ALL schools within Argyll and Bute will be closed on that day although we expect nursery provision will be unaffected. We would ask you to make arrangements for childcare for the 2nd of February and will send further communication to you towards the end of next week to confirm that the strike action is progressing.

Staffing

We are absolutely delighted to announce that following Interviews for the post of temporary Additional Support Needs Assistant, Mr Voinot has been appointed to the 25 hour post. He will continue on supply with us for now and then start in this post after the February break.

Feedback to parents and carers

As I mentioned in December, we will be issuing an interim report soon which will give you an individual progress and achievement update for your child. This will be based on information, observations and professional judgements provided by class teachers. It will also draw on data gathered through use of the National Standardised Assessments for Scotland (SNSA) which we will be administering with P1, P4 and P7 pupils over the next fortnight as part of daily learning. Many of you will be familiar with SNSAs and their as we have been using them in schools since 2016 but if not, please check out the information at the link below:
