Week Beginning 27th of October

Things are definitely beginning to get a little bit spooky around here…

The children all had a really good start back after the October holidays and our classrooms are certainly back into the swing of teaching and learning again. Last week saw a continuation of topics and an introduction of some new areas of work for this term.

This week has been busy as always, Monday saw our P7 pupils attending a Fire Work Safety online Presentation by Colin Maclean-Flemming from the Oban Fire and Rescue Department, the children attended with approximately 20 other schools from around Argyll and Bute. The take-away information from the presentation was to ‘think safe’ around bonfires and fireworks, attend public displays where possible, always be with an adult, be sensible with sparklers and know what to do if there is an accident (burn or fire). If you have the opportunity to ask your P7 pupil about Bonfire and Firework safety, it would be excellent to find out what they learned in their own words.

On Tuesday, Emily Love from the Patch Project came to visit, Emily works with the children from P4-7 and delivers a program discussing safety, friendships and boundaries amongst many other age appropriate topics.

On Wednesday this week the children will be visited by the nursing team to provide their flu vaccinations, information has gone home in school bags regarding this.

P5-7 have been working on some Hallowe’en crafts in their soft-start time as we prepare our school to host the Glassary Parent Council Hallowe’en Party on Thursday 30th of October 2025. The disco is from 6:30pm – 7:30pm in the primary school.

On Friday 31st of October, the children have kindly asked if they can have a dress up / dress down day – as it is the disco the night before and guising on Friday night they asked Mrs McClymont if they could dress Hallowe’en-y on Friday, for those that don’t wish to dress festively, they are welcome to come in non-uniform. There will also be a visitor to Glassary on Friday, on theme for Hallowe’en, dancing and providing some sweets for the kids. This will be right at the end of the day and the children will be advised that any sweets that they are given are taken home and parents can decide when they can be consumed.

Dates for the Diary:

November
Wednesday 5th of November – the children have been issued with EV5 forms in their school bags for return to Mrs Speechley at your earliest convenience, an information sheet has also been provided on messenger 5 – we have been given the opportunity to attend Glasgow Science Centre alongside Tayvallich Primary Pupils, it’s an early start but it should be an excellent day out! A packed lunch is essential for this trip, please make sure you haven’t selected a school dinner for this day on iPay, please select ‘packed lunch’.

Week beginning the 10th of November – Tuesday 11th November, the children will be marking remembrance day in school, Friday the 14th will be a themed day in school as this week marks ‘Anti-bullying week’ across schools, the children across Tayvallich, Craignish and Glassary will be taking part in a ‘be a hero day’, the 14th is also Children In Need 2025 and the day will be celebrated with appropriate activities. The school council are going to be asked if they wish for this ‘themed’ day to include dressing up as an option, more information to follow.

School plays – we have opted this year to run 2 short school plays, one for the P5-7 pupils and one for the P1-4 pupils, this allows us to create roles and stories that are appropriate for a wider range of pupils, it also allows for younger pupils to have larger roles if they so wish. The plays will begin rehearsing during class-time over the coming weeks, your child may have a script sent home with them to practice their lines, it would be brilliant if families could find some time to run over these with their children as every bit of practice will help build their confidence. Both plays will run one after the other on the day of the play in December. Again, more info to follow regarding time and date, please check the online calendar for further updates.

Reports will be issued on the week beginning the 17th of November.

There is a teacher in-service day on Monday 24th of November, no children will be attending school on this day.
