Glassary Primary School

Week beginning 29th January

Puppy

This week has flown by again. From this week, I plan to put out my update on a Friday so that you have plenty of time to read it over the weekend ahead of the new week.

Burns celebration

We had a delicious Burns lunch on Thursday, cooked by Margaret and team in the Resource Centre and served to us in style by Judy Campbell. We will be continuing the Burns theme on Monday 29th with some dancing and creative activities and once again, the children are welcome to wear a tartan item or accessory, if they wish to do so.

Whole School Trip

We had a very well attended and productive Parent Council Meeting on Thursday where we discussed a whole range of topics including our planned whole school learning trip. Pupils will be discussing this further in workshops next week and thinking about what we want to learn about, where we might go, how we might get there and the other practical things we need to consider like timings, cost, safety and food and drink. The trip is planned for the week beginning Monday 11th March and we will confirm the date as soon as possible for those of you who want to come and might need to book time off work.

Consultation on Argyll and Bute Council’s Education Vision and Strategy

We also had a useful discussion about this consultation at the Parent Council Meeting.  Argyll and Bute Education Managers have agreed to extend the consultation (please see the information issued here) and I agreed with the Parent Council to share with you all the powerpoint that has been written to help our children and young people to understand the consultation.  You can find that here.

Staffing

I am delighted that Kirsty Gargan is joining us on Fridays in Glassary (in the first instance) to offer volunteer classroom assistant support. Kirsty is planning to do a PGDE next year after she graduates and is volunteering with us in order to gain experience of supporting in school settings. She will be based mainly in the P1 to 4 class.

New arrival

I was also very excited this week to hear about a new arrival in our school community this week. I had the great pleasure of meeting Skye the puppy the other day and you can see from the picture with this update that I didn’t want to give her back!

Have a great week and you know where I am, if you need anything.
