Literacy/World of Work Workshop – Seonaid MacKenzie, BBC News

P5-7 were very fortunate on Friday to receive a visit from a local news reporter, Seonaid MacKenzie, of BBC News. Some of you may recognise Seonaid from the television or radio as he has been involved in producing reports for the BBC, BBC Alba and even Sky News for many years. He taught us all about what makes a story news worthy, how he became a journalist, the frustrations and fun of editing and working to deadlines, how to angle the camera and much more!! The workshop was great fun and linked very well with our learning within our Literacy and English Curriculum and also with the development of children’s Skills for Learning, Skills for Life and Skills for Work. We even got a look at Seonaidh’s very impressive (and very expensive) filming equipment!!

As always, our visitor was very impressed with the calm and focused atmosphere in our P5 to 7 classroom and the respectful way in which all of our pupils engaged with the workshop.

The pupils are currently working on creating their own news stories in both print and video format and we look forward to sharing more of these with you soon.

We are very grateful to Miss Fraser for organising this fantastic opportunity and to our colleague Aileen MacLennan in the Argyll and Bute Council Comms Team for putting Miss Fraser in contact with Seonaid. Moran Taing!

You can see photos from the workshop in our website Gallery and here: https://www.glassary.argyll-bute.sch.uk/literacy-world-of-work-workshop-with-seonaid-mackenzie-bbc-news/

Parent Council Christmas Tree Sale

We are very grateful to members of our Parent Council who turned out in the cold on Saturday morning to sell Christmas Trees as a fundraiser. Sales went very well but there are still a few trees left. If you want to grab one before they are gone, please contact Julie Brown. Check out the pictures of our festive helpers at work here:  https://www.glassary.argyll-bute.sch.uk/parent-council-christmas-tree-sale/

Farewell to Mrs Lynas

We were delighted that Mrs Lynas could join us for our assembly on Friday 1st December so that we could bid her a formal farewell, after she finished in her post with us after the October break. During her 18 months as a support assistant and First Aider at Glassary she made a lasting impression, with her caring approach to our children when they needed her help. We are very excited that she is planning to work with local schools delivering art workshops and look forward to her visiting us in that capacity in the future. You can see some photos of her farewell here: https://www.glassary.argyll-bute.sch.uk/farewell-to-mrs-lynas/

P1 to 4 Classroom Unexpected Elf and Safety Issue

You child may have told you that we have been concerned about recent visits to the P1 to 4 classroom by an intruder who goes by the name of Felix the Elf. At this time we are investigating the matter with the support of senior Elf and Safety advisors and Miss Mahmood and the pupils are cataloguing photographic evidence to assist with our work. We will keep you posted.

P1 to 4 Unicef Fundraiser

Following on from our fantastic P4 pupil assembly last month, we will be holding a French breakfast to raise funds for UNICEF and the child victims of war on Monday 11th December, to which families are cordially invited.

Mrs Flett and the P1 to 4 pupils will issue more information about timings this week

Please make your donation to UNICEF via our Just Giving Page here:

We are very proud of the P1 to 4 class for planning this event and continuing to consider the children for whom December will not be a festive month.
