The pupils, staff and Parent Council at Glassary Primary School never cease to amaze me with the fantastic teaching, learning and play opportunities that they make happen. This week I am particularly grateful to Mrs McClymont, who facilitated not one but two visits from adults in our community to share information about the work they do and the career pathways that they have followed. Our visitors have been invited in because the pupils wanted to know more about jobs that are of particular interest to them and wrote letters earlier this session.
World of Work project
On Tuesday of this week, we had a visit from Miss Moody who helped the children to learn about safe and healthy preparation and handling of food by setting up a kitchen in the classroom where every child made a pizza to take home. Our local hospitality sector is in good hands, as you will see from these photos: Work of work/health and wellbeing workshop with Miss Moody – Glassary Primary School
Then on Thursday, we had PCs Ben and Matylda in to answer the children’s questions about working in the police. Once again, it was brilliant to hear how the police work alongside all adults in the children’s lives to make sure they are safe and have their rights protected.

We are so grateful to our community partners for giving up their time to help us learn.
Parent Council
We were very excited when we had visitors on Monday who constructed the new learning and play shelter, mud kitchen, benches and planters, which have been paid through fundraising for by our amazing Parent Council. We will be talking more to the children about these next week.
At the Parent Council Meeting next week (Thursday 6th February) about plans and funding our Whole School Community Learning Together Trip which will follow on from the very successful day at Blair Drummond last year.
Parents’ Evenings
As always, it was a joy to meet or talk with you last week about your child’s learning and progress and celebrate their successes with you. We hope you feel as proud of them as we do!
Joint Learning Day – Wednesday 5th March
We will have three fabulous activities for the children on Wednesday:
- Jacquelyn Condie from Kilmartin Museum will be leading a Sewing for Hope workshop. This will involve making fabric squares, rather than sewing. You can find out more information here: https://vimeo.com/ntlmuseumsscot/rhrh
- Arthur Ker, acclaimed local artist and writer and former BBC and film and theatre designer will be reading from his children’s book based around our local wildlife and animals and showing the children how he created the illustrations.
- We will look at some fabulous videos made by local film-maker Rowan Aitchison about Jobs in Nature.
Jacquelyn has said that it would be really helpful if, for her workshop, the children could bring in any scraps of fabric you may have lying around at home, to add to the designs they make.
School site
You are politely reminded that the school site is private property and can only be used by members of the school community during the school day and by arrangement. This does not apply to the community playpark, which has separate gates and entrances. We are going to put signs on the school gates to remind members of the public about this.
Have a lovely weekend.
