Upcoming events
Don’t forget to check the school calendar for upcoming events in addition to those detailed below:
https://www.glassary.argyll-bute.sch.uk/events/
As mentioned in the last update, we have arranged two days of environment-related workshops for the P5 to 7 classes from Tayvallich and Glassary which will take place on Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st May in and around Tayvallich. More information and consents forms will be issued next week.
Nature Detectives Project
We have also arranged a fabulous joint learning activity for our Primary 1 to 4 class that involves working with Kilmartin House Museum and NatureScot. Pupils will be working on some of the topic next Monday and Tuesday mornings (6th and 7th May) in class with Miss Mahmood and Mrs Condie from the Museum. They will then have the opportunity to continue with the project at Taynish Nature Reserve on Thursday 14th May – more information will follow about the trip.
Fabulous work
Don’t forget to look at the class Seesaw accounts to see evidence of your child’s fantastic work as well as ideas for how you can support learning at home and details of homework. If you are not able to access Seesaw, please get in touch. Please note that following recent updates around the way we use data in Seesaw, photographs in Seesaw are now subject to the same restrictions as those posted on social media. If you have not given consent for sharing of images of your child on social media, we will only share photos of your child in their individual Seesaw Account.
Meeting with the Children’s Commissioner
You may remember that last term the children took part in a consultation with Nicola Killean, the Children and Young People’s Rights Commissioner for Scotland. As a result, Nicola is meeting with us next Friday online so that she can find out more about our schools and the work we do every day around Children’s Rights. Every child will have a chance to ask Nicola a question about her work and Miss Mahmood and Miss Fraser are working with the children over the next week to help them think of what they want to ask. Please feel free to talk to your child at home about this. You can find about more about Nicola and the work she does here: https://www.cypcs.org.uk/about/commissioner/
Garden Tidy
As you will know from the minuet of the last meeting which were circulated last week, The Parent Council is holding a garden tidy on the morning of May 11th to make sure that the communal garden above the school stays neat and tidy. Last year’s efforts were hugely appreciated and we would love to see as many of you as possible who can help out this year.
Sun protection
With the move in recent days to warmer weather, may I please remind you of the guidance on sun protection in our school handbook:
Your child’s skin may be affected by exposure to the sun, especially over the lunchtime period and other outdoor activities. It is a good idea for your child to wear a sun hat. If they have one, please put it in their school bag. You should ensure your child has sunblock applied prior to arriving at school in periods of hot weather and if you wish them to have further applications at lunchtime then you should send in sun-cream/block and we can help your child apply it.
Class structures next session
We are in the process of organising our class structures for August and due to pupil numbers, we will have a P1 to 4 class and a P4 to 7 class, with some of the current P3s in each. We will be contacting the families of the current P3 pupils individually around this.
Message from the National Crime Agency
The National Crime Agency has asked that we share information with you about online financially motivated extortion. You can find the letter here: http://www.glassary.argyll-bute.sch.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Parental-letter-re-online-safety.pdf
Have a lovely weekend.
