Week ending 4th October

Staff Climate Learning

Upcoming events

Don’t forget to check the school calendar for upcoming events in addition to those detailed below:

Events from September 19 – November 11 – Glassary Primary School

This week saw our teaching staff doing some extra special learning when they attended a fantastic Climate Smarter workshop with Eira from Stemovators Scotland.

We learnt all about science experiments relating to wind, water, solar power and forests and most importantly, we learnt how to help the children learn through these experiments in the weeks ahead and as we progress with our learning for sustainability project.  More exciting news about the project to follow, including information about a competition where the children will design an eco-friendlier version of our school.

Learning Together

As you know, we want to involve you in your child’s learning in school even more this year, as this will improve outcomes. Research shows that the wellbeing and attainment of children greatly improve when their “in-school” and “out-of school” adults work together and use common strategies, language and approaches to supporting their learning and development.

As you know from the School Improvement Plan, there are two main elements to this:

  • You will be invited to come in and experience how learning in the classroom works alongside your child. This could be for an hour or two, half a day or even a whole day.
  • You (or a family member if that is easier for you) will be invited to come in and talk about the work you do or have done; as adults we are all role models and sources of inspiration and information for all of the children in our community. If you can’t attend in person due to work or other commitments, you could perhaps record a video message. We are very keen to show the children that there is no one right path; you may want to talk about not having a formal job, having caring responsibilities or having given up a job that you had trained for to pursue something else. The children love to see demonstrations, so if there is a part of what you do that you could demonstrate, that would be fantastic.

In order that we can plan dates for this, can I ask that you please email me (Mrs Carter) by Wednesday 23rd October and give the following details:

  • Days and dates between October 28th and the end of February when you could come in to school and experience learning alongside your child.
  • Whether you would be willing to talk to your child’s class about the work you do and if so, how and when you would like to do this.

Fire Drill

We had our first fire drill this week and were so proud of the children and particularly the new Primary 1s, for how well they followed instructions.

Music with Laura

Following on from the success of the P4 to 7 ukulele sessions with Laura this term, she will be returning after the holidays (week starting October 28th) to deliver workshops to both classes.

Have a great October break and see you at 9am on Monday 21st October.
