Upcoming events

Don’t forget to check the school calendar for upcoming events, in addition to those detailed below:

I hope that you all survived Storm Eowyn and did not experience too much disruption. It was great to hear about all the home learning that you and your children got up to; we loved seeing pictures that some of you sent in!

This week in school has been focused, fun and very busy, with the P1 to 4 Pirate Topic progressing well and the P5 to 7 class producing some fantastic artwork including reproductions of iconic paintings and Chinese New Year lanterns.

We have some very exciting events coming up throughout the spring and summer terms, including the new ones below, which will be added to the calendar soon.

LANDS25

We are delighted that our P5,6 and 7 pupils have been invited to LANDS25, an exciting outdoor STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) event taking place on Wednesday 26th March 2025, in the grounds of Kilmory Castle and Lochgilphead Joint Campus. This will be a fantastic opportunity for the children to discover the learning and employment opportunities rooted in the lands of Argyll and Bute from local and national organisations and alongside other pupils from schools in Mid Argyll.

YesFest 2025

I am absolutely delighted to announce that Glassary and Tayvallich Schools have been invited to represent Scottish Schools at YesFest, a festival which brings together children from around the world who are committed to becoming stewards of our planet and protecting it for future generations.

The event takes place on Thursday 26th and Friday 27th June in Lancashire and we have been invited to take 6 pupils from P5 and P6 across our two schools and 2 adults.

An email with more information will be sent to the families of our P5 and 6 pupils today (Friday). Please watch out for it and reply by Wednesday 5th February, if your child is interested in this amazing opportunity

Whole School Learning Together Trip

The provisional week that we have in the calendar for our whole school trip (week beginning March 17th is creeping up on us. We are therefore considering moving our whole school trip to the week beginning 31st March.  We need to have a parent council meeting to find out about whether we may be able to access funding, consult with the children about where to go and then make bookings. We hope that as many parents or family members as possible will be able to come along.

P7 residential

We have already come to the time of year where we are planning for our P7 residential on Arran. Can P7 parents please check for an email today (Friday) about this and respond by Wednesday 5th January.

PATCH Project

As some of you will know, there was a possibility that PATCH was going to have to stop due to a lack of funding. However, we are delighted that Emily Love managed to get funding again and will be able to visit us to deliver the final sessions of the year in May and June. You will be very aware from recent news stories around children, phones and safety, that all adults need to be aware of the clear messages we give to our children about how to stay safe.

If you are not sure about how to address these issues with your child, you can access all of Emily’s resources here: https://www.rapecrisiscentre-argyll-bute.org.uk/the-patch-project, or check out https://www.ceopeducation.co.uk/parents/

School Counselling and Family Support

The new provision of counselling for pupils in Argyll and Bute Primary and Secondary Schools by The Exchange is proving to be very effective. The Exchange are also running a number of support sessions for families. You can find out more here:

Online Flipbook

I would highly recommend these family workshops. Parenting is the best and sometimes the hardest job in the world; when it is hard, the best thing we can do is reach out to others who understand.

Have a lovely weekend.
